Deal barnstorming the state; Palin to rally with Handel

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
ATLANTA - Former U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal kicked off a seven-city barnstorming tour of the state in Atlanta Monday morning, calling himself the only Republican who can defeat Democrat Roy Barnes in November.

Deal is set to hit seven cities from Gainesville to Albany Monday in a frenzied fly-around on the eve of the runoff election that pits him against Karen Handel, the former Georgia secretary of state. Deal's fly-around will end in his hometown at 5:00 Monday afternoon at Gainesville's Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport.

Deal said he was the best candidate to avoid defections to the Democratic Party during the general election. He said he's the candidate focused on ``vision, not on vengeance.''

Meanwhile, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is set to stump for Handel Monday at a rally in Atlanta.
