WASHINGTON - Amtrak service south of Washington is facing disruptions today after a coal train derailment in Virginia Thursday.
The Crescent, which serves Georgia with stops in Toccoa, Gainesville and Atlanta, is not affected.
Some freight service is also being impacted.
Amtrak says service will continue to be disrupted Friday because the railroad is shut down south of Quantico, Va., with all tracks blocked.
The disruption affects Amtrak trains running between Washington and Newport News, Va., and from New York to Miami, Charlotte, N.C., and Savannah, Ga. Auto train service between Lorton, Va. and Sanford, Fla. is also affected.
Limited alternate transportation will be available on some routes.
