ATLANTA - The state has slapped Habersham County and the City of Cornelia with $7,500 in fines for alleged environmental violations.
The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) wants Cornelia to pay $1,500 for unpermitted discharges from its sewer system.
Habersham County, meanwhile, is being fined $6,000 for problems at the county landfill. The violations included "failure to repair and clean up... sediment ponds, no daily litter pickup, failure to apply cover daily, monitoring wells unlocked and vegetation found in and around pads."
