ATLANTA - Georgia House Speaker David Ralston reiterated his endorsement of Republican Nathan Deal for governor while questioning former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's support for Deal's rival.

Deal's campaign said Wednesday it has endorsements from 70 lawmakers in the state House of Representatives.

Ralston first announced his support for Deal last year. He said the former congressman has integrity and has shown leadership.

His opponent, Karen Handel, has an endorsement from Palin, the running mate of Republican John McCain in the last presidential election. Ralston questioned whether Palin is qualified to make endorsements in Georgia and said he doesn't back candidates to get book deals or win TV appearances, a gibe at Palin.

Handel spokesman Dan McLagan called Ralston's comments part of a negative attack from the Deal campaign.
