Apartment fire displaces nine families

BUFORD - Firefighters responded to a report of an apartment fire at approximately 4:20 p.m. at the Oak Forest Apartments in Buford.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke showing from the two-story apartment building.

Crews made immediate entry into a second floor apartment unit and were met with intense flames. The fire quickly spread to several top floor apartments through the roof.

According to fire investigators, the blaze originated from the kitchen of a top floor apartment and spread to the attic and an adjoining apartment.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The blaze caused significant damage to eight apartment units. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for nine families.

There were no injuries reported.
