Scranton, Montero defeat G-Braves, 6-1

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Gwinnett Braves couldn't silence Jesus Montero's bat in a 6-1 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees ob Tuesday at PNC Field in Scranton, Pa.

After Gwinnett put one run on the board in the first inning, Montero led off the second inning with a home run to center field. the Yankees' catcher then drilled a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Montero's three RBIs was enough to put away the G-Braves and secure the win for the Yankees.

Todd Redmond (8-9) picked up the loss, pitching six innings for the Braves. Gwinnett (44-53) remains in last place in the International League South while Scranton/WB (57-40) is in first place in IL North.

Redmond went 6.0 IP, allowing four runs while posting four strikeouts and two walks. Scott Proctor pitched the seventh and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks. In his first appearance for Gwinnett, Michael Broadway pitched a scoreless eighth, striking out one.

Freddie Freeman was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored to lead the G-Braves at the plate. Barbaro Canizares was 1-for-3 with a run-scoring single in the first.

Gwinnett plays game three of the four-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field. Braves LHP Scott Diamond (0-0, 18.00 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Tim Redding (5-4, 3.32 ERA) of the Yankees.
