GAINESVILLE - As the City of Gainesville considers changes in garbage pickup service, the first of two public hearings on the matter is coming up Thursday night.
Twice-a-week back door pickup resumed June 14 after an eight-week test of once-a-week pickup. The results of that test program are among the things that will be discussed at Thursday's meeting at the Georgia Mountains Center. It begins at 5:30. A second hearing will be held next Thursday, also at 5:30, at the Gainesville Civic Center.
The eight-week trial program began after loud protests of a plan by the city earlier this year to begin once-a-week curbside pickup.
