Hall school transfer applications being taken

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School System has begun taking applications from students who wish to transfer to another school for the school year beginning next month.

Under the plan, spelled out in state House Bill 251, a student may transfer from any Hall County school to another Hall County school that is under capacity. Capacity is defined as 85% of maximum class size according to State Board Rule IEC (exclusive of waivers).

The school system has posted on its website the schools and grade levels that are under capacity. Parents must request transfers before July 21.
No transfer requests will be considered during the school year after the deadline.

If a school has available space and the number of transfer requests exceeds the remaining available capacity, the school system will conduct a random lottery that provides each interested student with an equal chance to be admitted. Parents will be notified of student transfers after each schoolâ
