ATLANTA - A person familiar with the decision says Damon Evans is out as Georgia's athletic director.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made. The person said Sunday it was unclear whether Evans resigned or was fired. However, WSB-TV reports a source close to the athletic department at the school says UGA President Michael Adams asked for and received Evans' resignation.
A conference call of the athletic association's board of directors executive committee is scheduled Monday. It will include Adams. A statement by the school is expected after the meeting.
There are several possible internal candidates to replace Evans including Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations Arthur Johnson and Senior Associate Athletic Director Carla Williams. University of Florida Executive Senior Athletics Director Greg McGarity is also a potential candidate, according to WSB.
Evans - a Gainesville High School graduate - was arrested for DUI late Wednesday night in Buckhead. (See earlier stories - links below)
