BUFORD - The Georgia Department of Transportation announces the relocation of Morgan Road at the intersection of State Route 324/Gravel Springs Road in Buford as part of the widening of SR 324 funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the federal government's economic stimulus program.
The intersection with Morgan Road is being moved east, away from the bridge over the interstate.
"This will greatly improve sight distance for motorists," DOT District Construction Engineer Randall Davis explained "So while we are widening SR 324, we are permanently moving Morgan Road. We expect to open the new intersection of Morgan and 324 this Friday afternoon. Please slow down through the area, use caution and do what the signage tell you. This change is quite intuitive once you see it."
The project widens the existing two lane roadway to a four lane divided highway from the current end for approximately 0.8 mile across Interstate 85. This construction project will complete the widening of SR 324 from SR 20 to SR 124.
The estimated construction cost is $11.2 million. The project is 26% complete and on schedule for its completion date of May 31, 2012. Strickland and Sons Pipeline Inc., of Gainesville is the project contractor.
