WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is capping two days of meetings on U.S. immigration policy with a speech Thursday on the need to fix what he and others have said is a broken system.
Obama discussed immigration and his speech at the White House on Tuesday with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. A day earlier, the president held similar talks with advocates and labor leaders.
Although the outlook for getting an immigration bill through Congress this election year is bleak, the White House says Obama discussed his desire to see Democrats and Republicans build off a legislative outline by Sens. Chuck Schumer and Lindsey Graham.
