WINDER - The Barrow County sheriff's office has formed a task force aimed at reducing repeat calls about domestic violence from the same home.
The sheriff's office began making house calls last week to provide more support to domestic violence victims between the first time deputies respond to a home and the time the case goes to court.
Lt. Wayne Driggers, who heads the new unit, says domestic violence represents more than half the department's calls.
He says the unit contacted 14 women on Friday who had reported domestic violence.
Members of the unit volunteer to work during their off time to make the rounds. Driggers say they plan to conduct visits at least twice a month.
