Teen injured in boating accident dies, is identified

UNDATED - The 15-year-old girl who was hit by a boat while tubing on Lake Lanier over the weekend has died from her injuries.

Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden said officials at Grady Memorial Hospital told him that the teen passed away around 3 p.m. Thursday.

"Her name is Ashley Howard, of course she is a 15-year-old, and her home address is a Woodstock address," he said.

Sgt. Mike Burgamy with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said earlier this week that three people were riding on a tube being pulled by a boat, two fell off in front of another boater and that boater had to take evasive action. In doing so, Burgamy said he missed one subject and struck another.

Investigators don't believe the operator of the boat that struck Howard was at fault.
