GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Commissioners will host the official opening of the new headquarters for Post 6 of the Georgia State Patrol Thursday. And, the public is invited to tour the facility afterward.
The state patrol has been at its current location in Gainesville for more than 40 years.
The new 13,000-square-foot building serves as headquarters for Troop B, which covers 20 Northeast Georgia counties. In addition, in case of a disaster, Post 6 is also a back-up site for Georgia State Patrol headquarters in Atlanta. The $2.5-million building was funded by Hall County bonds that will be repaid using fines collected by the state Patrol.
"We are proud to have the Georgia State Patrol in Hall County, and it is important to our residents that we keep the state patrol headquartered here," Commission Chairman Tom Oliver said.
The ribbon-cutting is at 11:00 at 2000 Cleveland Highway.
