Stranded in Italy

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The family of a Gainesville woman in a coma in Italy since spring is still trying to get her home. Julie Bryan was struck by a car in Rome in March.

Her mother, Lisa Sullens, has been in Rome by her daughter's bedside since the accident, according to Fox 5. She says Julie had been accepted for graduate school at Boston College but decided to take a year off before going back to school. She does not have medical insurance... something her mother says her daughter has no one to blame but herself.

Other family members say the longer she's overseas the more worried they are about her longtime prognosis.

Sister Amanda Jones says Julie - who suffered severe brain damage - is making no progress "at all" at the moment.

Meanwhile, several Hall County businesses have donated to a fund set up to help cover some of her health care costs and the expense of getting Julie home. In addition, the family is organizing fundraisers.
