Macon man's death may be heat-related

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
MACON - Georgia may have recorded its first heat-related death of the current hot spell.

A 54-year-old Macon man died of a heart attack Sunday), and although it is not confirmed, Monroe County Coroner Joey Proctor tells Georgia News Network it was probably heat-related.

"I cannot say definitely that it was but as hot and humid as it was yesterday (Sunday), I would say there is a good possibility that heat was involved."

Procter said Robert Terrell collaped after finishing a round of golf about 1:30 Sunday afternoon and was talking and laughing with his golfing buddies when ehe became ill.

Temperatures in Monroe County, which is just north of Macon, were in the mid- to upper-90s at the time.

The National Weather Service says the unseasonable hot weather that has had its grip on Georgia since last Wedndesday is likely to continue at least through this week. (See separate story.)
