GAINESVILLE - Gainesville police say the nine people arrested in connection with a fight early Sunday that left one man dead are gang members.

Police say Daniel Adame, 23, Gainesville, was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Sunday morning shortly after officers got a call to Lenox Park Apartments to a report of a fight in progress.

Police are investigating the events that led up to Adame's death, but eight people between the ages of 15 and 21 are charged for fighting and violating the street gang and terrorism act.

Another man, 18-year-old Juan Francisco Villanueva of Gainesville, is charged with felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

All of the adults were transported and released to officials at the Hall County Detention Center. The juvenile was transported and released to officials at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.

Lt. Carol Martin said it was around 4:45 Sunday that officers "responded to the area of Lenox Park Apartments to the report of a fight in progress."

Martin said that while enroute to the scene, the officers were notified by the emergency dispatch center that a number of vehicles were leaving the scene.

"One of these vehicles was located at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center," Martin said. "One of the male subjects in this vehicle (23-year-old Daniel Adame) was later pronounced dead by medical staff. One other person is being treated for injuries involved in the incident."

She added that officers found an area near the apartment mailboxes that indicated an altercation had taken place.
