NORFOLK, VIRGINIA -- The Norfolk Tides beat the Gwinnett Braves 4-3 Friday in the final game of the four-game series at Harbor Park.
With the win, the Tides took three of the four games and moved ahead of the Braves in the International League South standings, who dropped to 27-34 with the loss.
The Tides scored three runs in the bottom of the second off Gwinnett starter Jo-Jo Reyes. The Braves had a 1-0 lead at the time, but a two-run homer from Brandon Snyder gave the Tides a lead they would never lose. One out later, catcher Michel Hernandez hits a solo homer to right to give the Tides a 3-1 lead.
Reyes (0-4) suffered the loss allowing four runs on six hits in five innings.
Freddie Freeman, Barbaro Canizares and Mitch Jones each went 1-for-4 for Gwinnett. Joe Thurston was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, his sixth of the season.
The Braves open a four-game home-and-home series against the Durham Bulls Saturday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The first two games in Durham are to be followed by games on Monday and Tuesday at Coolray Field.
First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. RHP Todd Redmond (6-5, 4.15 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Durham will start LHP Carlos Hernandez (4-3, 3.21 ERA).
