GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man has been named Coordinator of the Year by St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital for his longtime fundraising efforts for the hospital.<br />

Stanley Pierce was selected from a group of more than 3,000 local coordinators across the nation.<br />

He and his wife, Peggy, will be flown to Memphis, where St. Jude's is based where he will be honored at a banquet.<br />

Pierce said Tuesday he began raising money for St. Jude's 12 years ago through an annual gospel concert in Gainesville and says he has raised about $230,000 during that time. The concert is held each August at the Georgia Mountains Center. Pierce said he never charges an admission to the concerts but does take up a "love offering." This yearâ
