JEFFERSON - The Jackson County Commission wants the county listed as a federal recovery zone.
The recovery zone listing would designate the county as an economically depressed area. The designation allows governments and businesses to access millions of dollars in low-interest bonds.
Commissioners say the recovery bond money could be used by an electronics firm planning to build a facility that could employ up to 400 people.
Eligibility depends on whether the state Department of Community Affairs reallocates Georgia's $533 million share of federal recovery bond money for local governments that did not get bonds in 2009.
