GAINESVILLE - A stuck accelerator is being blamed for a wreck west of Gainesville Thursday night that left four people injured.

The driver of the car, Samuel Wright, Jr., told police the accelerator stuck as he turned onto Lanier Valley Drive from Dawsonville Highway.

Lt. Carol Martin of the Gainesville Police Department said Friday "As Mr. Wright changed lanes to avoid hitting another vehicle, he struck a fence, mailbox and a rock embankment. This resulted in Mr. Wright going down an embankment and the vehicle overturned."

Sgt. Chris Jones of the Gainesville Police Department said Thursday night all four of the people in the car were hospitalized and were in stable condition at last check.

Jones said two of them were flown by helicopter to Atlanta area hospitals and two were taken by ground ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The passengers in Wright's car were: Tracy Morrison, 19; Kenneth Jackson, 21; and, Desmon Bush, 22, all of Gainesville.
