AUBURN, Ala.-- Auburn has dismissed redshirt freshman running back Dontae Aycock from the team.
The university announced Aycock's dismissal for violating team rules on Friday.
The Tampa native was among the contenders to replace Ben Tate in Auburn's backfield, along with Mario Fannin, Onterio McCalebb and incoming freshman Michael Dyer. He also was a candidate for playing time at H-back.
The 5-foot-10, 218-pound Aycock was rated the 16th-best running back prospect by Rivals.com out of high school.
His brother Dwight Smith is a longtime NFL defensive back.
Aycock is the second member of Auburn's 2009 recruiting class to leave this week. Quarterback Tyrik Rollison was granted a release from his scholarship and is expected to transfer to Sam Houston State.
