NHHS band director resigns

GAINESVILLE - Citing personal reasons, North Hall High School Band Director Alan Kirkland abrubtly resigned his job this week.

Kirkland requested that he leave the job immediately. He submitted his resignation Tuesday evening.

Hall County Schools spokesman Gordon Higgins would not discuss details of the resignation, saying that personnel matters are private.

Higgins also said that NHHS Principal Joe Gheesling has stated that an immediate search is underway to find a permanent replacement. In the interim, Aaron Hughes, Assistant Band Director, and Jan Ewing, Fine Arts Department
Chair, will lead the NHHS Band Program.

According to the school's Web site, Kirkland had been band director since 2004. His responsibilities included Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Music Theory. Prior to coming to Hall County, he taught in Gwinnett County at Berkmar High School and Norcross High School.
