Tornado overturns planes, damages homes in NW Ga.

By The Associated Press
SUMMERVILLE - Officials in Chattooga County say the weekend storms that tore across the South produced a tornado that destroyed two hangars and overturned planes at a small airport.

Mark Schrader, an investigator with the sheriff's office, says in addition to the damage at the airport in the Teloga community, about 15 miles northwest of Summerville, the tornado that struck early Sunday leveled barns and carports and damaged roofs in the county.

Nate Mayes, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, says the tornado was classified as EF1, with winds of about 100 mph.

No injuries were reported in Chattooga County from the storm.

Elsewhere in the South, twisters killed 12 people... 10 in Mississippi and two in Alabama. (See separate story.)
