Parking fines could go up

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council is considering increasing parking fines in the city.

The proposal would increase to $100 the fine for parking in a fire lane; $250 for illegally parking in a handicapped zone; $50 each for parking on a sidewalk or in a reserved space; and, to $20 any number of other violations.

City Marshal Debbie Jones said the amounts of the fine have not been changed in seven years.

There was some talk among council members of not publicizng the changes but Danny Dunagan insisted that they be pulicized.
