Homeowner charged with torching his own home

GILLSVILLE - A 31-year-old Hall County man has been charged with arson after investigators say he admitted torching his East Hall home early Saturday.

The house, in the 3300 block of McDougald Road in the Gillsville area, is a total loss, according to Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle.

Cagle says Mike Ledford is charged with first-degree arson. He says Ledford called 911 about 3:00 Saturday morning, told the operator what he had done and was arrested at the scene of the fire.

Cagle says the 1,000-square-foot house is a total loss and that several fires had been set throughout the structure. He would not discuss a possible motive for Ledford's actions.

Cagle said Ledford's wife and two children were not at home at the time of the fire.
