Winter taking its toll on roads

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - This year's unusually cold, wet winter is beginning to take its toll on north Georgia roads.

The cycle of "rain or snow and then freeze and rain or snow again and freeze again" is breaking up the surface of many roads.

It is so bad on the Richard Russell Scenic Highway (Georgia Highway 348) in White and Union counties that a 7-mile stretch of that road has been closed indefinitely.
