CLARKESVILLE - The Gainesville boys golf team was the highest Class AAA finisher at the Apple Mountain Invitational Saturday, firing a team total 303 to finish fifth out of 24 teams.
Junior Will Frankum shot a 1-under, 71 which was good for a fifth place tie in 128-player field. Sophomore Parks Brown shot 72, junior Matthew Cindea 79, and sophomore Carson Brown and freshman Pep Brown each finished with 81s for Gainesville.
Class AAAAA Peachtree Ridge, the two-time defending AMI champions, blistered the course with a 7-under team total of 281 to claim its third straight title.
Playing as individuals, freshman Reeves Bell shot 79 and eighth-graders Grant Lasseter (82) and Jackson Bishop (83) rounded out the scoring for GHS.
The Red Elephants play next at the Hall County Championships at Royal Lakes Country Club in Flowery Branch. GHS will play Round 1 (9 holes) on Monday at 3:30, and Round 2 on Tuesday at 3:30.
