Boys soccer: Elephants stomp South Gwinnett

GAINESVILLE - Irving Salgado had two goals and three assists to lead the Gainesville boys soccer team to an 8-1 rout of South Gwinnett Friday night.

The sixth-ranked Red Elephants (3-0) led 5-1 at halftime and never looked back in staying unbeaten on the young season.

Gabriel Osorio and Merly Velasquez each added two goals for Gainesville. Carlos Sanchez had one goal and one assist and Yunis Yanes had one goal for the Elephants. Douglas Mejia and Monish Lihary each had one assist for Gainesville.

Marco Monreal and Edgar Espinosa shared time in goal for the Red Elephants with each record one save.

Gainesville dominated from the beginning, recording 17 shots on goal to just three for South Gwinnett.
