Ex-Banks Co. tax official arrested

ATLANTA - A former Banks County deputy tax commissioner has been charged with computer fraud in connection with a scheme to lower taxes for several acquaintances.

Lori Ann Slaton faces seven felony counts of computer fraud and one felony count of violation of an oath of public officer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Monday the 41-year-old Slaton was arrested after an investigation revealed she had intentionally lowered vehicle ad valorem taxes for several acquaintances by altering bills on a county computer.

Slaton was fired on Feb. 18. She is booked into the Banks County Jail and awaits release on bond.
