Corps wants comments on Lake Hartwell plan

By The Associated Press
ANDERSON, S.C. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants the public to weigh in on the environmental impact of a proposed reduction in water levels in Lake Hartwell.

Members of the public have until noon Monday to voice their opinions about the plan for the lake on the South Carolina-Georgia state line.

Officials say the plans will allow the Corps to manage the lakes more effectively during times of drought.

In November, a study paid for by the Corps found that Lake Hartwell's low water levels had caused no major economic impact in six counties around the lake during the drought in 2007 and 2008.
