Georgia State beats Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

CHATTANOOGA -- Dante Curry came off the bench to hit six 3-pointers and score 18 points to lead Georgia State to a 72-42 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.

Curry was 6 for 10 from the 3-point line and the Panthers (5-5) shot 45 percent from behind the arc (9 of 20) in the first round of the Dr. Pepper Classic.

Georgia State held Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to 14 of 42 from the floor (33.3) percent, including 1 for 14 from the 3-point line (7.1 percent). The Islanders (4-8) also committed 17 turnovers and shot 48.1 percent from the free-throw line (13 of 27).

The Panthers took a 20-2 lead on Curry's 3-pointer with 12:14 left in the first half. They extended the margin to 35-13 on another 3 from Curry and increased it to 46-23 on Devonta White's layup with 16:19 to play in the game.

White finished with 14 points.

Demond Watt led the Islanders with nine points.
