WINDER - A Barrow County woman and her father, a lieutenant in the county fire department, are recovering from a shooting Christmas Day at the father's home.

Barrow County sheriff's deputies and investigators responded to a shooting at the home of Todd Orr shortly after 5PM.

A sheriff's office spokesman says 46-year-old Todd Orr and his 21-year-old daughter, Tiffany Thomas, were both wounded following a struggle for control of a gun that went off during an altercation.

According to Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith, an argument arose at the residence that escalated to the point of individuals throwing items at one another.

When Orr went into an adjacent bedroom to retrieve a rifle, his daughter and other family members attempted to stop him. In the ensuing struggle the rifle discharged. The bullet severed Ms. Thomas's right arm before striking Todd in the hand and then his abdomen.

According to Sheriff Smith, Ms. Thomas is eight months pregnant, but, Smith added, the baby is reported to be unharmed.

Thus far, investigators have recovered physical evidence from the scene, recovered the weapon used in the shooting, and have begun interviewing witnesses.

Sheriff Smith added that it appears that alcohol was involved in the altercation.

Both Orr and Thomas have been hospitalized.

No charges have been filed at this time but the incident remains under investigation.
