Stage set for 14th Annual Polar Bear Swim

GAINESVILLE - The Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club invites you to welcome the new year Saturday with a plunge into the cold waters of Lake Lanier.

The club will stage its 14th Annual Polar Bear Swim at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the rowing venue at Clarks Bridge Park.

All jumpers will receive an official 2011 Polar Bear Swim T-Shirt, a bowl of hot chili or soup, dessert and drink. Registration fees apply to all jumpers - $25 for a Single jumper and $50 for a Family Jump (limited to four) but there is no admission for spectators. Hot showers will be available in the boathouse.

As in past years, jumpers can wear costumes and jump more than once. Kids as young as four have participated in the past and families often jump together.

All proceeds go to the club's youth programming.
