Jobs in Ga. down by 5,100 since Nov. 2009

ATLANTA - The number of jobs in Georgia decreased by 5,100 over the past 12 months.

The decline was led by Brunswick (a net loss of 1,100 or 2.6 percent); Dalton (a net loss of 1,700 jobs or a 2.6 percent reduction); Macon (1,500 or 1.5 percent); Athens (800 or 1 percent); Gainesville (700 or 1 percent); Rome (300 or .8 percent); Warner Robins (300 or .5 percent); and, Valdosta (200 or .4 percent). Athens lost 800 jobs during the period and Gainesville 700.

Hinesville recorded the biggest "percentage" growth in the number of jobs - 1.5 percent or an increase of 300); next was Savannah (1,800 jobs or a 1.2 percent increase); Augusta, 1,800 or .9 percent); Albany (300 or .5 percent); and Columbus added 400 new jobs, representing a .3 percent increase.

Meanwhile, Georgia's unemployment rate is up three-tenths of a percent from a month ago to 10.1 percent. (See separate story.)
