GAINESVILLE - A 26-year-old Gainesville man accused of killing his girlfriend's 13-month-old baby in 2009 was found guilty Wednesday.
The jury found Billy Nicely guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the first-degree.
The Hall County Superior Court jury began its deliberations Tuesday afternoon.
Nicely claimed at the time of the youngster's death that the baby had been injured in a fall but an autopsy disproved that and he was arrested a month after the child's death on March 31 2009. The youngster died one day after the injury at Pines on Lanier Apartments.
Family members told police Nicely was taking care of the child while the mother was at work.
