Record low for the date broken in Atlanta

By The Associated Press
UNDATED - Record lows for the date were set or matched in some places in north Georgia this morning... and wind chills were dangerously cold in some places.

A record low that had stood for nearly 100 years was broken in Atlanta when the temperature dipped to 14 about daybreak. The old record of 15 had been set in 1917.

One of the coldest places in the state was Blairsville where the temperature dropped to 9 and the wind chill well-below zero about daybreak. An early morning wind chill advisory was issued late yesterday for areas along and north of a line from near Chatsworth-to-Dawsonville-to-Cleveland, with the National Weather Service warning that wind chills in the affected area would be "dangerously" low.

Schools in Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, Rabun, Towns and Union counties are closed again today and Young Harris College will open two hours late, at 10:00. Roads remain icy across the north Georgia mountains, making highways treacherous.
