GAINESVILLE - Parents of prospective students at Hall County's new School of Inquiry (CSI) will have four chances, starting next week, to attend informational sessions on the program.
The school will be housed at Chestnut Mountain Elementary.
Ashley Hayes, the CSI Coordinator at the school, says the students will "develop questions about what they are interested in, they research and discover their answers, and then present what they have learned in creative ways, with a real high focus on technology."
Hayes said the program - which, in size, is expected to equal one class - will be open to any student anywhere in the county in grades K-5, but parents of those students from outside the Chestnut Mountain school district will have to furnish the children's own transportation.
She said the School of Inquiry will emphasize "research and inquiry and provide the students with a choice in learning."
Chestnut Mountain Principal Sabrina May added technology is highly visible within performance assessments, as students are creating and showcasing their learning using web-based programs such as Animoto, Glogster, Voice-threads, You Tube, and green screen technology.
"The various possibilities for students to demonstrate their learning are endless as inquiry, creativity and rigor continue to drive this program."
The parent information meetings will be held in the Chestnut Mountain media center next Thursday at 9:00 a.m.; January 11 at 6:30 p.m.; January 21 at 9:00 a.m.; and February 10 at 6:30 p.m.
