Athens to seek Ga. Music Hall of Fame

By The Associated Press
ATHENS - Athens, long known for its music scene, is looking at becoming the home of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

Matt Forshee, president of the Athens-Clarke Economic Development Foundation, said Thursday that Athens will bid for the hall, but can't disclose details because hall officials won't allow it.

The state's music and sports halls of fame are housed in Macon, but have run into financial problems.

The Macon City Council voted last month to approve $500,000 in subsidies to retain the halls, and the Bibb County Commission is expected to match that figure.

The Dunwoody City Council voted last month to bid on the music hall.

Dahlonega, Albany and Woodstock officials also have expressed interes
t in the halls. The deadline to submit a proposal is Dec. 10.

AccessNorthGa.com erroneously reported a few weeks ago that Athens and Dahlonega were no longer in the running. We regret the error.
