LAWRENCEVILLE - The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) has marked the one year anniversary of a controversial partnership with federal immigration officials aimed at deporting illegal immigrants.
Sheriff Butch Conway tells Georgia News Network the program is producing positive results. Conway notes a 28 percent reduction in the number of foreign-born inmates booked into the county jail during the period.
The program is the same one that has been in place in Hall County for a number of years.
