GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house meeting next week to discuss the proposed replacement of the bridge and the detour required during construction on State Route 246 over the Little Tennessee River in Rabun County. The open house is scheduled for 5:00-7:00 on Tuesday at Dillard City Hall.
GDOT engineers will be available to discuss the project but there will be no formal presentation.
The highway 246 bridge will be closed to through traffic for about two months next spring while crews remove and replace the existing driving surface or bridge deck, the edge beams, end walls, approach slabs and guardrail. Traffic will be rerouted to use Kelly Creek Road and US23/US441. Traffic will be able to access businesses and homes on each side of the bridge but must approach their destination without crossing the bridge.
