University System of Ga. hits new enrollment high

ATLANTA - The University System of Georgia is reporting a new record for fall enrollment, with Georgia Gwinnett College leading the way.

The system says enrollment climbed to 311,442 students in fall 2010, an increase of more than 9,500 students. The fall 2009 enrollment set the previous record.
Enrollment has increased every year since 2006 in the system, which includes 35 degree-granting colleges and universities. Since then, more than 51,000 students have entered the system.

Georgia Gwinnett College had the highest increase, jumping from about 2,433 students to 5,380 students, an 82.6 percent increase. Six schools in the system saw double-digit growth this fall. Women make up about 58 percent of all enrollment, and the system's full-time enrollment for fall 2010 is 276,111.

Gainesville State College enrolled 8,883 students for fall semester, an increase of.9 percent; North Georgia College & State University recorded a 4.6 percent increase to 5,912; Georgia Tech's enrollment increased 2.1 percent, to 20,721; and, the University of Georgia showed a decline in of .6 percent to34,677.
