Tigers whip Social Circle in playoff tuneup

SOCIAL CIRCLE -- Commerce finished the regular season on a strong note beating Social Circle 49-21 Friday night on the road.

The Tigers (5-5, 4-2 in Region 8-A) will be the fourth seed out of 8-A and will play the winner of the Bremen-Trion game in Region 6-A next week in the first round.

Commerce built a 35-7 halftime lead behind the running of Jessie Savage and the defense, which held the Indians to minus-15 total yards in the first half.

Savage opened the scoring wit ha 10-yard run and then Cody Streetman connected with Anthony Norris on a 20-yard TD pass for a quick 14-0 lead. After a safety late in the first quarter pushed the lead to 16-0, Social Circle got its only first half points on a 50-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Jamal Browner would then score on a 1-yard run and then Marquavious Little scored on two late first half possessions from 1- and 7- yards. Little added a 10-yard TD run in the third quarter and Browner capped the scoring with a 22-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Savage finished with 140 yards rushing to lead Commerce. Browner finished with 86 yards for the Tigers.
