Opening of widened Ga. 141 delayed

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
CUMMING - The Georgia Department of Transportation had planned to have all four lanes of State Route 141 in Forsyth County opened by Monday but the contractor says that won't be possible.

CW Matthews Contracting now says the earliest possible opening would be mid-November, citing weather delays and equipment failures as the cause for the delay.

Beginning Sunday - weather permitting - paving crews will work night and day shifts to complete the project as soon as possible.

Four lanes are of SR 141 are open to traffic from Brookwood Road to State Route 9, approximately 4.5 miles of the 6.5 mile long project. Work continues on the only remaining two lane section of State Route 141 from Brookwood Road to Deer Lake Dr/Granite Lane. Crews must put down the base of the roadway and then the binder. That work is expected to take two weeks. Crews can then split traffic, opening one lane on each side of the median. The top layer of asphalt is the last paving to complete. The final step is the striping and signage changes then all four lanes can open for use.

This project is 94% complete.
