SUWANEE - Safety is the issue as Suwanee begins a re-examination of its Alternative Transportation plan, specifically how to get pedestrians across Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, identify gaps in its sidewalk network and prioritize installation.
A kick-off open house will be hosted at City Hall, 330 Town Center Avenue, on Thursday. City officials will be looking for citizen input from 5:30-7:30 p.m. one how to make Suwanee a more walkable community. Two weeks later, on November 18, the City will provide information about its preliminary recommendations to the Alternative Transportation Plan update at another open house, again hosted from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
"Our goal is to make Suwanee a more walkable community," says Planning and Inspections Director Josh Campbell. "In order to do that, we need to hear from the people who use our sidewalks - walkers, runners, bikers - about where there are gaps in our system and where additional improvements will most benefit our sidewalk and trail network."
The Alternative Transportation Plan update will establish project priorities. Campbell says the plan also is a useful tool when the City applies for grants to help fund alternative transportation projects.
