COLUMBUS -- Senior Laura Sangster belted a two-run home run in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie with West Laurens and propel White County into the championship round of the Class AAA girls softball tournament on Friday with a 4-1 win in the semifinals.
The Lady Warriors are in the driver's seat for their first-ever state title. They will play the winner of the West Laurens-Allatoona elimination game Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Columbus Softball Complex and will need just one win to take home the title.
Stephanie Satterfield tossed a complete-game to earn her second win of the tournament and kept the game close until the offense could get going.
Morgan Jacobson gave White County the lead with a solo home run in the fourth, her 12th home run of the year, but West Laurens answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
It stayed that way until the sixth when Sangster gave White County the lead. Callie McDonald added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single.
