ATLANTA - Atlanta's streetcar project is about to get a boost.
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood plans to present a check Wednesday for $47.6 million to the city for use on the streetcar project.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and U.S. Rep. John Lewis are set to be on hand to discuss details about the project, including the route, development timeline and economic impact.
City officials still need to raise another $5.6 million because the federal grant is less than what the city requested.
The streetcar line would run east-west connecting the Martin Luther King Jr. Center with Centennial Olympic Park.
