Lake Lanier one year later

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
BUFORD - It's now been one year to the date since Lake Lanier reached full pool again, after several years of prolonged drought and it has remained at or within a couple of feet of that milestone ever since.

The lake reached 1071.01 about 9:30 on October 14 last year. Full pool is 1071.

Our records show it topped out at 1072.98 on November 13 last year. The lowest point in the past year was 1068.78 - that was on September 27.

And, its approaching that mark again. The level early Thursday was 1069.02.

Patrick Robbins on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has said a number of factors over the past few months have contributed to the declining lake level - the lack of rain, the heat and the need for power generation at Buford Dam.

The level of Lanier early Thursday was 1069.02... almost exactly two feet below full pool, the level it reached one year ago.
