Jefferson man charged with attempted rape

ATHENS - A 38-year-old Jackson County man - Grady DeWayne Damons - is charged with attempted rape in an incident involving an Athens woman.

Athens-Clarke County police say the 27-year-old victim told officers Damons accosted her in her home after she returned from stepping outside to get something from her car.

She managed to get away, went to a nearby business, and called police.

Acting on a lookout give to them from a description of the suspect, Damons, who is from Jefferson, was arrested a short time later by police. He is charged with burglary and criminal trespass, in addition to attempted rape.
