Lowery's now famous leap worth $2,500

CLEVELAND -- White County High running back Ashley Lowery became an overnight sensation earlier this season, when the senior hurdled a West Hall defender and the highlight made national television highlights.

Turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg, and Lowery's highlight has now earned his school $2,500.

That's the prize for being one of the first-half winners in State Farm Insurance's Friday Night Feats contest.

Twenty-five other schools in the U.S. and Canada are now competing for the $15,000 first prize -- based on voting by online viewers. Other schools will become eligible during the second half of the contest which runs through Nov. 24.

By the way, the touchdown Lowery scored on the play was negated because leaping over a defender is considered a dangerous play and is illegal under Georgia High School Association rules.
